Feed Back
Throughout this brief I feel like I have progressed in many areas. I found It difficult at first when using Adobe programs as I have only used them briefly. I feel like since the beginning of the brief I have learn very valuable skills in how to use illustrator and Indesign that will help me through until the end of my course. There is still more room for improvement but I can now say in confidence that i am comfortable using illustrator. We haven't had many tutorials in Photoshop, which is a shame, but i know if i ever need anything doing or helping that the mac technicians will be able to teach me.
After completing my magazine I now was to figure my personal style as I don't feel like I have found it yet, but over summer I am going to carry on working on my illustrations hand and digital so that next year I will feel comfortable drawing in a style.
The brief was channelling yet I feel like I managed my time well and progressed my skills in my own study time. If I was to do the brief again I would work more on my communication work and try doing some illustrations in different medias and searching for different techniques to use on illustrator.

Indesign
For my zine I used Indesign which I found easy to use, once I got comfortable with the software. I added all my concept work onto it, I added photoshoot images, flat drawings, digitally rendered, hand rendered and concept communications on to it. The only part I struggled with was getting it uploaded onto Issue because it was uploading as a four page spread when I initially wanted it to be 2 pages, after the technician faffed about with it for a while I managed to get it uploaded. I really enjoyed working on Indesign, and i'm happy with my final piece.

Final Illustration
We had a tutorial on how to illustrate digitally in illustrator, I did them in class but as it was my first time I struggled getting them to look neat and professional. I went and did a couple in my own time and these are the out come. I found after a couple attempts I managed to get a illustration that I liked. If I had the time I would work on my illustrations because i enjoyed it and would like to learn how to illustrate as a useful skill.

Store opening
For my concept I chose to do promotions for a new store opening, I did a leaflet with the date and location on, I also did a store layout and a new store front. I've put up some screen grabs for my work in illustrator, doing the leaflet, I used a Topshop existing flyer as inspiration. I didn't get any screen grabs for my store layout, but I just drew it free hand, making sure I put the correct garments in the right places. Ie the new season/on trend garment at the entrance to the shop and the basics at the back.

Logo Research
Initial Logos
These are the initial logos I designed. This was from the second illustrator tutorial, so now that I have improved my skills I am going to redesign some more appropriate ones.

First Shoot
First Shoot Contact Sheet
I also did a second shoot with two other models, Karl and Jamie but I lost the images on my laptop, so I haven't got a contact sheet, luckily I had a selection backed up on a memory stick.

Photo shoot research
Styling
Location
for one shoot I would like to shoot on some steps, influenced by Jim Yong Kin, the photographer that I researched. I want the shoot to be done as street style but I don't want the generic graffiti or brick wall back ground. I want to have one shoot near the corn exchange because there are some quirky buildings around there and also one shoot done on the university campus, because I've seen some steps around there that would work well.
Date of shoot: 5th May

Existing brand research
Represent
This high street American brand fits perfectly with my concept. They deign simple clothing but very effective. They layer up different t-shits, the have long drop t-shirts which has been researched in this brief. This brand is being used as inspiration for my magazine, the style of the garments and also the communications of the brand.
I will research into the styling of the shoots for my street style images.

Brand Identity.
What makes a successful brand? After doing research for branding I have learnt the different key aspects to a successful brand, and the key elements
a successful brand will have audience knowledge, a recognisable logo that establishes the brands identity. They understand their target audience and communicating to reach the correct audience. Signature style could be a print/pattern or a shape that is associated with the brand.

Magazine Research
Company Mag
I had a look at some of my magazines for inspiration for my issue page. My favourite magazine to read is Company, I love the way that they set out their pages and they give off a very playful vibe. My favourite aspects of the pages are the tall thin fonts, and also the lined paper in the background.

ID Magazine
I also like the unique style of ID, I find the pages very raw and simple, but effective. I like the colouring of the images, its almost like they have dulled down the colours to make it feel moody.
I like the way the text is over the image here

Artist Research

Artist research:
Jim Yong Kim.
Artist//Photographer//Designer.
Based in Seoul, Korea.
I have taken Jim Yong Kim as inspiration because my concept is Mens Japanese street style, and Jim is a designer who styles and design the same style clothing as I want my brand to design. He is also a photographer who photographs street style in Korea, and the outfits are amazing. I love the colours that are used in his work, I love how the wear all black and then have a bight coloured background to grab the viewers attention. I also like the geometric backgrounds of like stairs and also shadowing, when I do my shoot I'll use this as inspiration. This is the link to his Tumblr.. Jim Yong Kim
Illustrator workshop
This was the second tutorial we had in Illustrator, and the first time I'd ever done a digital fashion illustration. I found this lesson particularly hard. I completed the tutorial, but I want to come back and do some neater illustrations.
Monday, 7 April 2014
This was the first flat drawing that I did, I did it in the workshop following the sheet that was given out as a guide. This was my first time using illustrator properly after the first induction and I found it fairly difficult to get my head around, but once I got used to it I have been able to use the program basically. When I tried to upload this image after exporting it in illustrator, I was having some difficulties uploading it onto BlogSpot. I had to go back and save the file as a web image so that it uploaded easier.
